Gidday.

Last weekend Daniel and I decided to go for a little exploration drive and visited Mt Stewart. Which is pretty much another Castle hill just further back from the city of Townsville. Well its gorgesous up there!! Amazing views of townsville and Hervery range. (Where the heritage tea rooms are)
Mt Steward's primary use is for the communication towers and suprisingly they dont take away from its beauty. the wildlife even included what i thought was a mating pair of Peafowls - Peacocks.
Here are the photos enjoy :)

Hi all,

So a couple of weekends ago we had some rather unpleasant weather here to the point where castle hill was covered in clouds! So being the tourists that we are on weekends we drove up, check out these photos: (P.s these photos were taken on Daniel's Samsung S3 phone :)

Hi all,

So this post is pretty much going to be all about food and the things that we miss the most and what we find wierd about being here.

Wierdness:
- Well custard square is called a vanilla slice here. and it does not taste the same. Very creamy!
- L&P is definetly World famous in New Zealand, Because it is very hard to find here. There is only one supermarket you can go to to find it - Coles and then its expensive.
- Milk is actually really cheap here 2ltr bottle of skim milk is only............ wait for it......... $2. Yup thats right!  cheap huh?
- Their meat does not taste the same as back home. I made a cornbeef in the crockpot and it turned out really dry. I dont get why, because it spent all day cooking in water! But oh well
- They do however have a big variety of different meats, turkey, duck & Kangaroo (not very nice quite tough) etc and their standard ordinary chicken you can get marinated in alsort of different flavours so its easier in a sense to create those quick easy meals after a long day. and they are resonably healthy too.

The things Dan and i miss the most are:
- Cheap fish and chips! - you buy here one fish and a scoop of chips and you pay $10 thats for one person - its highway robbery really.
- Chicken burgers you can get from the fish and chip shop! just for those lazy nights.
- Butter chicken pie from wild bean cafe! mmmmmmmmmm
- Naturally custard squares
- Dont miss the subway mayonaise - it taste like water in NZ opposed to the creamy mayo here.
- Indian tonight and most of all SUNDAY ROAST - for those nights in the weekend when you want to be lazy but also have a healthy meal!
- we dont need to miss the classic kiwi dip, because we have got our hookup for the sachets and cant get reduced cream in our local supermarket.

What we find is a bit of a laugh over here is:
- That the aussie's seem to panick when it rains! They cant drive in the rain. we Dont know if its because we are just use to driving alot in the rain and can drive to the conditions without causing the roads to become backed up with traffic.
This will possibly be explained by the way they sit their licence here - first you get your learners - you do this by test. Then you go on to your P's there is two diferent types. P1 & P2 (they are also colour coded but i cant remember which is which) So they sit a test to get their first P. You need to then do a certain amount of hours driving etc then it automatically switches over to your P2 i think. Then after your P2 you go on to you open. But what is strange for this you do not sit a test. It just automatically ticks over!! Ah what?? anyway ahahaha

The other thing that is wierd is the road markings - jagged lines sit at give ways and stop signs. Instead of your solid lines. That took some getting use to aswell. I have to admit ive been through a few stops signs without stopping. (I did not crash or cause road rage, it was safe) and their speed signs pop out of no where so you tend to miss them alot as well lol.
and instead of saying a quick message for example: right lane only - the aussie one will say - must enter right lane only. (they take to long to read and are a distraction)

Some things here do make you think what on earth are they thinking - Thong vs Jandal is a classic example, i always have to think which one they are when i get asked if we sell thongs (i work at chemist outlet and sell orthopedic shoes) its quite a crack up. but i guess we will get use to it and when we come back to NZ bring on Sunday roast, butter chicken pies, indian tonight, custard squares & fish and chups! hehhe

Talk to you soon.
ill be adding some more photos of some of our food creations and of some cool sites later :)

till then
